Find a need and fill it: if you see a need online that is not being sufficiently well filled, or that could be filled better or more cheaply, that may be the niche you want to pursue. Google a site called Nicheology (Nope, I have no commercial interest here!). It's a paid resource, but well worth a look to see what is new and exciting at the moment. When you have found a niche that both interests you and which could be profitable, search out good products in that niche and become one of their affiliates. The world's largest seller of affiliate products is Clickbank. I've never counted, but they say they sell over 10,000 products. I am inclined to believe them! Clickbank is extremely user friendly. There is a fair bit to learn about how Clickbank works, but keep at it--- it's not hard. All Clickbank members are exactly like you: they are interested in earning money from home, and they have found an ideal partner in Clickbank. If you are just starting out, please, for now, avoid trying to sell your own product. If you think that earning money from home requires you to sell your own stuff, you are apt to get bogged down with new information and new tasks. It's called "information overwhelm". (Don't ask me how I know this!) You don't have that luxury--- you need to see results soon and earn money quickly. In order to earn money through an affiliate marketing plan, you don't even need your own sales page. The affiliate vendor will have provided one, so use it--- unless it happens to be exceptionally poor in quality. In that case, talk with the vendor about getting permission to have a page designed for you by a professional. Having signed up and gotten set up as an affiliate, the next step is to drive traffic to the sales page and start getting sales. By the way, it is essential that you first buy and use the product yourself. How can you honestly recommend it to others if you haven't? For the beginner, articles and forums are good traffic generating strategies. This is free traffic-- you talk about your product, service or niche, and use links to get folks to the sales page, where hopefully you may see your first sales and start making a few dollars. Only when you have started to actually make some money as an affiliate reseller should you consider putting up your own site. And, again, because you are still relatively new, I strongly suggest you outsource this task. The purpose of having your own site is two-fold. First, you can talk about your niche, product or service in articles you post on your site, as in a blog, and second, you can invite folks to sign up for a free email list. Of course you will continue to have links to your affiliate sales page, but now you are trying to establish a little authority in your area of increasing expertise. By having people following you on a blog, and by developing that all important subscriber list, you are now on the way to creating a real online business. So, to recap: Choose your niche, find a good affiliate program to promote, use the website provided to start out with, make a few bucks, then develop you own site. With your own site, get subscribers and grow a following through your blog. Assume there will be problems and setbacks, and learn from them. When all is said and done, the web is a big place and is very forgiving of failure. (I know a lot about that!) And then --- develop your very own product. And then--- sell that product through your own affiliate program. So logical! Logical, and most of all, doable. Even for you.
